KINS 260 Health Appraisal and Fitness Assessment (3 credits)



Prerequisite Completion of KINS 155  with a grade of 2.0 or better.

Course Description
The course incorporates current industry standards for health appraisal and fitness assessment techniques to optimize client safety during exercise participation.

A. Standardized health appraisal process
B. Exercise preparticipation health screening
C. Cardiovascular fitness assessments
D. Body composition assessments
E. Muscular fitness assessments
F. Flexibility assessments
G. Resting assessments
H. Balance and functional assessments
I. Test selection, sequence and termination criteria
J. Analysis and interpretation of assessments
K. Exercise prescription M. FITT-VP (Fitness, Intensity, Time, Type, Volume, Progression)

Student Outcomes
1. Conduct client health-related fitness assessments, to include the initial consultation, resting measures, body composition, muscular fitness, cardiorespiratory fitness, and flexibility.

2. Apply the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) exercise pre-participation health screening process using the pre-participation health-screening algorithm. 

3. Discuss appropriate functional testing for sport specific skills, job simulation and activities of daily living.

4. Analyze and interpret health-related fitness assessment results to develop an exercise prescription using the FITT-VP principle.
