HSEM 410 Ethics and Critical Thinking in Homeland Security Emergency Management (5 credits)



Prerequisite Current enrollment in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Homeland Security Emergency Management program.

Course Description
This course provides students with an overview of ethical frameworks and critical decision-making models likely to be used in Homeland Security Emergency Management environments. Students will observe how different frameworks are used in HSEM and will apply models to case studies, to learn how different frameworks and models can affect people before, during, and after disasters.

Student Outcomes
Differentiate between morals, values, and ethics Describe ethical principles that are common to HSEM   Demonstrate the ability to apply ethical frameworks and critical thinking models to complex HSEM problems.   Devise strategies to address issues faced by historically underserved communities in HSEM processes.   Identify ethical issues in case studies and propose alternate decisions that might lead to more equitable outcomes.
