HSEM 430 Legal Issues in Homeland Security Emergency Management (5 credits)
Prerequisite Current enrollment in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Homeland Security Emergency Management program.
Course Description This course provides an overview in public policy and law related to the Homeland Security Emergency Management field, as well as an overview of relevant standards and best practices in the field.

Student Outcomes Describe the laws, authorities, mandates, and standards that apply to organizations involved in HSEM
Describe the evolution of HSEM policy development over time.
Analyze the legal and policy principles applicable to current HSEM issues through case studies of recent issues and events.
Identify the basis of legal liability and how it can be avoided in organizations.
