HSCI 220 Introduction to Public Health (5 credits)



Course Description
A general introduction to the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and examination of disease and injury prevention.

Student Outcomes

  1. Describe the steps involved in an epidemiological investigation and how epidemiology and the resulting data from that research is used to control disease
  2. Describe impacts of human behavior and social determinants of health.
  3. Assess public health education strategies in order to determine the most effective means of communicating health information.
  4. Evaluate the connection between environmental health and public health.
  5. Determine probable public health outcomes due to disasters.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of health policy upon public health metrics.
