The Healthcare AAS-T is an associate degree that incorporates prerequisite courses for specialty admissions programs such as nursing, dental hygiene, and physical therapist assistant. It also prepares students to pursue baccalaureate degrees in healthcare fields.

1. College Success


  • Course Purpose: A foundational course to explore and affirm a career choice and build upon the skills, knowledge, and resources that will support you at Pierce College and beyond.  

2. Preparatory Chemistry


  • Course Purpose: Healthcare professionals need to understand the basics of chemical concepts, including atomic structure, periodic properties, chemical bonding and chemical nomenclature.

  •  

  • Transfer Notes: Please see your advisor if you took high school chemistry or have previously taken a chemistry course.

3. Introduction to Statistics


  • Course Purpose: It is important for healthcare professionals to understand statistics to make informed decisions in patient care as well as when examining the need to change policies or procedures.  

  • Note: Your advisor will assist you in reviewing your Guided Self Placement and selecting either the 5 credit or the 7 credit co-requisite MATH& 146 + MATHC 146 course.

5. Inorganic Chemistry


  • Course Purpose: Healthcare professionals need to understand the key concepts of synthesis of organic and inorganic compounds to understand human physiology and how medications react physiologically.

6. English Composition I


  • Course Purpose: As a healthcare professional, you will be documenting patient health attributes and performing technical writing. It is important to be able to clearly communicate in written format to ensure appropriate patient care.  

  • Note: Your advisor will assist you in reviewing your Guided Self Placement and selecting either the 5 credit or the 7 credit co-requisite ENGL& 101 + ENGLC 101 course.

Check your grade point average (GPA) at the completion of each quarter throughout the entire pathway. Check the admissions requirements for the program you seek to transfer to The Pierce College Nursing Program requires a 3.0 minimum GPA for the following courses: ENGL& 101, CHEM& 121, PSYC& 200, BIOL& 241, BIOL& 242, BIOL& 260. Only one repeat is allowed per course (W, NC, R). Students admitted into the Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene (BASDH) Program had a cumulative prerequisite course GPA of 3.91.

  • Course Purpose: Healthcare professionals need to understand the anatomy and physiology of the human body. This is essential in being able to understand the physiology and pathophysiology of the disease process.
