4. Business Analysis


  • CIS 210 Business Analysis (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: You will learn tools to analyze the business environment and define stakeholder needs in order to make recommendations for IT solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.

5. Spreadsheet Applications


  • CIS 136 Spreadsheet Applications (3 credits)
  • Course purpose: Business data resides in spreadsheet silos around a company. In order to import or export data for your stakeholders, you will learn basic through advanced spreadsheet design and development. 

6. Productivity Software


  • CIS 130 Productivity Software (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In order to document and present IT solutions to IT teams and to stakeholders, you must be proficient in desktop software. You will learn some of the most popular software applications used for word processing, spreadsheet, database management and presentation and note taking purposes using various local and cloud-based storage.

13. Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (OOP)


  • CIS 123 Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (OOP) (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In this course you will learn the Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts of inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces and abstract classes as well as an introduction to classes, objects and methods utilizing top down design, model-view controller, and other maintainability/ modularization/and reusability techniques.

  • Course purpose: Information technology professionals routinely create presentations. In his course you will learn techniqes for creating effective presentations. 

16. Introduction to Statistics


  • MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: Information technology professionals routinely work with analytical data in creating datasets from databases and data warehouses. In this course you will learn how to work with data and to implement data analysis.

19. Database Administration Backup and Recovery


  • CIS 262 Database Administration Backup and Recovery (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In this course you will learn the key tasks and functions required of a database administrator in a production environment. Students will gain experience creating and implementing a database, managing data, expanding the size of the database, implementing basic security and data integrity measures, and granting data access privileges to individual users.

Complete certification exam(s) (ex. MTA Database Fundamentals, MTA Software Fundamentals, IIBA ECBA). Begin job readiness preparation for internship and post-graduation job search.

  • BTECM 257 Electronic Health Records (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: HIT professionals must understand the medical laws and policies governing the medical data as well as understand how the stakeholders create and use the data. This course will prepare students for the management of health information through the use of electronic health records. 

21. CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks


  • CNE 241 CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In order for databases and programs to work correctly, you will need to communicate effectively with networking staff. This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components and models of the Internet and other computer networks. The principles and structure of IP addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media and operations are introduced to provide a foundation for the curriculum. By the end of the course, students will be able to build simple local area networks (LANs), perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes.

22. Business Analytics/Intelligence


  • CIS 275 Business Analytics/Intelligence (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In this course you will develop business intelligence (BI) solutions, including data cleansing, Extract Transform Load (ETL), and Data Warehouse implementation. BI tools will be used for reporting (SSRS), integration (SSIS), and analysis (SSAS). Cubes and marts will be created to feed presentation layers for dashboards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) providing needed user analytics.

23. Installing and Configuring Windows Server


  • CNE 232 Installing and Configuring Windows Server (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: In order for databases and programs to work correctly, you will need to communicate effectively with networking staff, and also be able to build your own development environment. In this course you will install and configure Windows Server with Active Directory, Network Services, Local Storage, File and Print Services, Group Policy and virtualization.

24. Supervised Internship


  • CIS 290 Supervised Internship (5 credits)
  • Course purpose: This course will allow you to gain relevant experience working in a local business environment. This requires 250 hours of supervised work including associated resume preparation, job interviews and internship documentation.

Note: Due to the rapid changes in the IT industry, the Special Topics courses CIS 155 and CNE 155 may be substituted as needed into the CIS or CNE degree programs, on the advice of the CIS/CNE faculty and program coordinator.
