DDSGN 170 Fundamentals of Video Production (5 credits)
Distribution Area Fulfilled General Transfer Elective Course Description The study of video production techniques utilizes current and historical elements of design and composition theory to introduce digital formats such as video, still images, sound, and music into digital production.
Course Content A. History of film and video production
B. Pre-Production elements including: story treatment, scriptwriting, and storyboarding.
C. Production elements including: screen composition, lighting, and sound.
D. Post-Production elements including: editing, color corrections, and on-screen effects.
E. Composition Theory.
F. Analysis and evaluation of various video productions.
G. Delivery platforms, including streaming.
H. User Interface Theory.
I. Philosophy and ethics in film and video production.
J. Career options and the job market.
Student Outcomes 1. Examine the history of film and video.
2. Write in industry standard script and draft in storyboard formats.
3. Practice various composition techniques and apply the theory behind them.
4. Capture and record audio and video signals in digital formats.
