CJ 251 Criminal Justice Work Based Learning (4 credits)



Prerequisite Program Coordinator or instructor approval required.

Course Description
A supervised professional experience in a criminal justice agency that develops students’ understanding of organizational culture, ethical practice, and inter-agency dynamics. Students enhance their problem-solving, communication, and cultural competency skills while exploring career opportunities and their role as effective citizens in the criminal justice field.

Student Outcomes
1. Evaluate how personal biases and positionality influence professional practice in criminal justice settings.

2. Analyze the relationship between criminal justice agencies and their served communities.

3. Apply organizational protocols and chain of command in professional settings.

4. Demonstrate effective professional performance in criminal justice settings through clear communication, protocol adherence, adaptability to feedback, and evidence-based evaluation of safety practices.
