Course Description Basic introduction to playing piano by establishing good reading habits, rhythmic competency and learning the basic fundamentals of music theory.
Course Content 1. Music literacy concepts
treble and bass clef pitch notation, rhythm notation, time signatures, tempo markings, and chords.
C F and G major scales, chord progressions, melodic and harmonic intervals.

2. Simple musical forms
3. Musical interpretation
4. Sight reading
Student Outcomes 1. Read notes on the grand staff and identify them on the keyboard.
2. Sight read early elementary level pieces in the C, G, and F positions.
3. Apply elements of basic music literacy at the piano.
4. Perform two solo recital pieces for fellow students.
