PE 169 Volleyball (2.0 credits)



Course Description
This course is designed to introduce students to the skills of volleyball, rules of the game, and introductory team tactics.

Course Content
A. Medical clearance for exercise B.  Technical volleyball skills C.  Tactical volleyball skills D.  Teamwork and collaboration E. Benefits of volleyball for fitness acquisition F. Skill-related components of fitness G. Behavior modification and habit building H. Goal setting and evaluation   I. Motivational techniques J. Self-awareness; self-worth; confidence   K. Safety, rules and strategies

Student Outcomes
1. Identify medical clearance for safe participation in exercise and the benefits of participation in a comprehensive fitness program.
2. Demonstrate the fundamentals of volleyball including  bumping, setting, spiking and serving.
3. Identify the benefits of volleyball as a form of physical activity and exercise to improve one’s health and wellness through the development of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) goals for the purpose of self-analysis, self-discovery, and self-reflection.

Program Outcome: Graduates will increase their awareness, knowledge and behavioral skills regarding the role of physical activity and exercise as a foundation for life-long health and wellness.
