DHYG 274 Biological Structures I: Dental Anatomy (1 credit)



Course Description
This is the first in a series of three courses. This course provides a comprehensive study of the human dentitions including primary and permanent tooth names, numbering conventions, eruption sequences, morphology, and anatomy.

Course Content
Anatomical facts, concepts, and morphologic features in primary and permanent dentitions
Essential anatomical primary and permanent dentition terminology
Primary and permanent dentitions’ anatomical names and numbering systems (universal letters and numbers)
Integration of anatomical facts and concepts into dental hygiene clinical practice
Eruption sequences of primary and permanent dentitions

Student Outcomes

  1. Compare anatomical facts and concepts related to primary and permanent dentitions.
  2. Identify morphologic features, location, and function of primary and permanent dentitions.
  3. Contrast eruption sequences, clinical considerations, and tooth morphology of primary and permanent dentitions in clinical applications.
