Course Description
A course designed to explore the dimensions of health and wellness to assist students with making informed choices for a healthy lifestyle. Students will reflect on personal and social responsibility for achieving optimal wellness.

Course Content
A. Dimensions of Health and Wellness B. Social Determinants of Health C. Emotional and Psychological Wellness D. Stress E. Principles of Nutrition F. Body Weight, Body Composition, and Body Image G. Physical Activity and Exercise H. Disease risk factors and prevention I. Relationships & Communication J. Personal Safety K. Drug and Alcohol Use and Misuse L. Diverse strategies for behavior change

Student Outcomes
 

  1. Analyze the dimensions of wellness, factors that influence these dimensions, their interrelationship, and the impact on quality of life outcomes and risks.
  2. Evaluate one’s wellness in the various dimensions to develop diverse strategies for achieving and maintaining optimal wellness.
  3. Utilize strategies to recognize and overcome health disparities for individuals and communities.
  4. Demonstrate communication skills to enhance relationships in a variety of contexts (personal, professional, etc.).
  5. Develop safe personal behavior strategies including ways to minimize risk. 
  6. Apply techniques to enhance adherance to a progressive physical activity/fitness program.
