IE 011 Intensive English Reading & Writing 1 (10 credits)



Course Description
Reading & Writing 1 is an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course for students who need to develop low-intermediate English language abilities. Students will study low-intermediate English language reading and writing concepts. Students must reach 80% competency overall in order to pass to the next level.

Student Outcomes
 

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to perform the following outcomes at a low-intermediate language level: 

  1. Use pre- and post-writing strategies to develop simple paragraphs. 

  1. Write simple paragraphs with topic sentences and support that demonstrate focus, unity and clarity. 

  1. Compose a variety of simple and compound sentence structures. 

  1. Apply strategies to infer the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary and phrases in texts. 

  1. Employ a range of reading strategies using various texts. 

  1. Identify main ideas and supporting details in various texts.
