IE 031 Intensive English Reading & Writing 3 (10 credits)
Course Description Reading & Writing 3 is an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course for students who need to develop high-intermediate English language skills. Students will study high-intermediate English language reading and writing concepts. Students must reach 80% competency overall in order to pass to the next level.

Student Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to perform the following outcomes at a high-intermediate language level:

Compose multi-paragraph academic essays that support a thesis.

Locate sources to support student writing using library and other resources.

Integrate texts through paraphrasing, quoting and citing in an essay.

Summarize and respond to texts.

Employ a range of reading strategies to comprehend various texts.

Draw conclusions and make inferences based on explicit and implicit information in readings.

Apply strategies to infer the meaning of unfamiliar and academic vocabulary.
