VT 225 Equine Nursing (1 credit)
Prerequisite Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program
Course Description Husbandry and nursing of equines with special consideration of the companion and the competition/athletic horse.
Course Content A. Anatomy, physiology, and behavior unique to the horse and other domestic equids
B. Husbandry and nursing of equines with special consideration of the companion and the competition/athletic horse
C. Equine diseases, parasites and their management
D. Equine reproduction and neonatal care
E. Surgical and anesthetic considerations
Student Outcomes
- Describe basic anatomy, physiology and behavioral characteristics of horses and other domestic equids.
- Describe and apply husbandry and nursing practices to the companion and competition/athletic horse.
- Identify equine diseases, parasites and their management.
