VT 104 Animal Nursing II (4 credits)
Prerequisite Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program
Course Description Introduction to the preparation of the surgical patient, assisting the veterinarian in sterile surgery, and pre and post-operative care of the patient.
Course Content A. Chemical Disinfection of Surgical Equipment and Facilities
B. Preoperative Patient Care
C. Preparation of the Surgical Environment
D. Role of the Veterinary Technician During Surgery
E. Postoperative Patient Care
F. Routine Surgical Procedures Performed on Small Domestic Animals.

- Demonstrate proper surgical routines.
- Execute standard aseptic technique procedures and maintenance of surgical equipment and facilities
- Demonstrate proper peri- and post- operative care of animal surgical patients
