MNGT 296 Current Trends in Human Resources (5 credits)



Course Description
Equitable and accessible exploration of current human resource trends including local, state, and federal labor laws; recruitment and selection techniques; training and development strategies using competency-based development plans; and development of policy manuals and job descriptions.

Course Content
A. Equity-mindedness in human resources. B. Current local, state, and federal labor laws. C. Equitable and Inclusive interview practices (e.g., behaviorally-anchored). D. Competency-based performance management  Feedback assessments (e.g., 360-degree feedback). E. Preparation of employee development plans. F. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) employee policy manual compliance requirements. G. ADA/EEOC job description compliance requirements. H. Employee training and development programs

Student Outcomes
1. Evaluate how personal biases and positionality influence the creation and implementation of equitable human resource policies and practices.

2. Apply local, state, and federal labor laws—including ADA and EEOC requirements—to develop compliant and inclusive HR systems in hiring, discipline, and policy development.

3. Design fair and accessible applicant selection, employee training, and professional development programs that align with organizational goals and mitigate bias.

4. Conduct job and competency analyses to define interpersonal and technical skills needed for success, and create HR policy manuals that address workplace equity, harassment prevention, and substance use.
