CJ& 240 Introduction to Forensic Science (5 credits)

Course Description
Analysis of the history of crime scene investigations, practical use of technical equipment and scientific methods to assist in crime detection. Includes fingerprint identification, fingerprinting, casting, sketching, and crime scene photography.

C. Evidence processing lab standards
D. History of fingerprinting
E. Fingerprint field techniques
F. Inked fingerprint recording
G. Biometrics
H. Recognition and recovery methods of tool marks

Student Outcomes
1. Process evidence in accordance with established industry standards.

2. Analyze historical cases to identify patterns of evidence manipulation and its impact on diverse groups of people.

3. Assess contemporary issues (e.g., biometrics) in forensic science through an intersectional and multicultural lens.

4. Explore one’s own positionality and biases and their impact views of forensic science.
