EM 440 Data Visualization for Emergency Management (5 credits)
Prerequisite Current enrollment in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Management program or Emergency Management Technology Certificate.
Course Description Introduction to data visualization tools, including geospatial technologies such as GIS, GPS, geofencing, and remote sensing, as well as incident management software and data dashboards as they are applied to support emergency management activities.
Course Content 1. Overview and History of Geospatial Representation 2. GIS Capabilities and Applications 3. Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Geofencing, and Remote Sensing 4. Data Dashboards 5. Incident Management Software 6. Integration of data visualization technologies in emergency management
Student Outcomes 1. Describe the historical and current use of geospatial representation in emergency management.
2. Evaluate how data visualization technologies support emergency management activities.
3. Demonstrate the ability to create and use data visualization products at a basic competency level.
4. Propose innovative solutions for including data visualization technologies in emergency management.
