New Media and Digital Design AA-DTA Course Map

The New Media and Digital Design (NMDD) program at Pierce College District offers students a New Media and Digital Design AA-DTA degree. The Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) Associate degree is designed to transfer to most Bachelor of Arts degrees at all four-year colleges and universities in Washington state. This map provides you a clear path to complete your degree by listing a specific set of courses relevant to your program and career. The map is designed with the appropriate number of credits and meets degree requirements. Courses are organized in a recommended sequence; please schedule accordingly. If transferring to Evergreen State College or Highline College, four criteria must be met:

Earn a technical associate degree from a regionally accredited Washington community or technical college. Eligible degrees include AA, AS-T, AA-DTA, or AAS-T degrees.

Course Purpose: Understanding human biology can help design students think creatively and innovatively by inspiring new ideas and approaches. Human biology not only fosters a sense of awe for the natural world but also forms the basis of life including evolution, genetics, ecology, anatomy and physiology, and nutrition. - ENVS& 100 Survey of Environmental Science (5 credits)
Course Purpose: This class is important for design students because it provides them with the knowledge and understanding of ecological systems and environmental impacts, allowing then to create designs that are sustainable, minimize environmental harm, and consider the long-term consequences of their design decisions across various fields. - ENVS& 101 Introduction to Environmental Science (5 credits)
Course Purpose: This class is important for design students because it provides them with a foundational understanding of the environmental impacts of design decisions, enabling them to create more sustainable and responsible designs.

Course Purpose: This course covers the historical elements and a solid working knowledge of the development of new media. Students will explore technical, social, cultural, ethical, and economic aspects of new media technologies, such as advertising, branding, mass media, UX/UI design, and product design.

Course Purpose: This course teaches the creation of 3D models and how to texture, light and animate them. From game design to graphic design, 3D modelers, texture artists, and animators are always in-demand.
