- CIS 121 Introduction to Computer Information Systems (5 credits)
Course purpose: This course provides baseline vocabulary for all IT conversations as well as presenting the wide breath of the specialty areas of the field. - CIS 122 Introduction to Computer Programming (5 credits)
Course purpose: In this course you will learn introductory concepts of computer program analysis, design and development using modern structured programming methodologies and techniques. This also involves structure charts, pseudocode and flowcharts. Common computer program techniques of documentation, testing and validation, and implementation using the systems development life cycle (SDLC) model, and lab assignments to allow the student to interact with computer technology, hardware and concepts. - CIS 130 Productivity Software (5 credits)
Course purpose: In order to document and present IT solutions to IT teams and to stakeholders, you must be proficient in desktop software. You will learn some of the most popular software applications used for word processing, spreadsheet, database management and presentation and note taking purposes using various local and cloud-based storage. - CIS 134 Computer Operating Systems (5 credits)
Course purpose: In this course you will learn about the basics of computer operating systems. - CNE 241 CCNA 1: Introduction to Networks (5 credits)
Course purpose: In order for databases and programs to work correctly, you must learn to communicate effectively with networking staff. This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components and models of the Internet and other computer networks. The principles and structure of IP addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media and operations are introduced to provide a foundation for the curriculum. By the end of the course, you will be able to build simple local area networks (LANs), perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes. - BTECA 100 Business Keyboarding: Key the Alphabet by Touch (1 credit)
Course purpose: Keyboarding skills are necessary for rapid and efficient implementation of computer commands. - BTECA 102 Keyboard Skill Development: Alpha and Technical Improvement (1 credit)
- BTECA 103 Keyboard Skill Development: Alphanumeric and Technical Improvement (1 credit)
- BTECA 104 Keyboard Skill Development: Alphanumeric Improvement (1 credit)
- BTECA 105 Keyboard Skill Development: Further Alphanumeric Improvement (1 credit)
Course purpose: Keyboarding skills are necessary for rapid and efficient implementation of computer commands. Students with disabilities will need to be proficient in alternative input technologies.
3. Systems Analysis and Design
- CIS 280 Systems Analysis and Design (5 credits)
Course purpose: You will learn systematic approaches to defining needs, creating specifications and designing information systems. Course discussion and hands-on case studies providing practical knowledge and experience. Waterfall and agile systems analysis and design techniques will be used to develop and document effective computer-based information systems projects. You will also learn project management standards and create project plans using currently available project management application software.

4. Database Management Systems
- CIS 260 Database Management Systems (5 credits)
Course purpose: You will learn concepts, theory, analysis and design of relational database management systems (RDBMS). This project-based class explores Entity Relationship modeling and database design fundamentals. Practical application includes case study analysis within the health-care industry and comparison to other industries as applicable.

- CIS 262 Database Administration Backup and Recovery (5 credits)
Course purpose: In this course you will learn the key tasks and functions required of a database administrator in a production environment. You will gain experience creating and implementing a database, managing data, expanding the size of the database, implementing basic security and data integrity measures, and granting data access privileges to individual users.

Note: Due to the rapid changes in the IT industry, the Special Topics courses CIS 155 and CNE 155 may be substituted as needed into the CIS or CNE degree programs, on the advice of the CIS/CNE faculty and program coordinator.
