Nursing Assistant Certified (IBEST) Certificate Course Map

Prior to admission, you must complete TB skin testing with no evidence of active TB infection. Cost consideration for testing ranges from $25-100.

1. Foundations for Success (ABE/ESL) 1 credits


ABE 090/ESL 090, choose as advised.

Course purpose: These courses provides an introduction to the healthcare field along with basic knowledge and information about nursing care.

Note: Placement/selection of interested students is completed by Transitional Education program advisors.

2. IBEST Academic Support (ABE/ESL) 5 credits


ABE/ESL 099, choose as advised.

Course purpose: These courses provide academic support hours to enhance comprehension and understanding of oral and written communication related to health and nursing care.

Note: Placement/selection of interested students by Transitional Ed program advisors.

 

3. Nursing Assistant Theory


  • Course purpose: This is a theory course which addresses the basics of patient care and physiological response to illness, basic nursing principles of hygiene and infection control, nutrition, sleep, safety, and communication, role of the NAC. This course also includes 7 hour HIV/AIDS required content for state of WA certification.

4. Nursing Assistant Lab


  • Course purpose: This is a lab course to teach appropriate and necessary skills for work as an NAC in a patient care environment. This course includes Healthcare Provider CPR certification.

5. Nursing Assistant Clinicial


  • Course purpose: This course provides an opportunity for clinical practice to apply knowledge and skills in an actual patient care environment. Includes Mock Testing opportunity for skills test practice for certification at end of quarter.

6. IBEST Academic Support (ABE/ESL) 3 credits


Course purpose: These are support courses to enhance comprehension and application of NAC coursework. They provide academic support to enhance comprehension and understanding of oral and written communication related to health and nursing care.

Note: Concurrent with NAC program coursework for academic support (adult learner or ESL needs). If student intends to work and become NAC, apply for certification with the State of WA and schedule testing. Cost considerations- application = $65.00.
