2. Introduction to Investigative Profiling

• CJ 270 Introduction to Investigative Profiling (5 credits)

• Course purpose: This is the introduction class to the profiling portion of the certificate. You will gain an understanding of the basics of investigative profiling.

3. Introduction to Crime Analysis and Intelligence

• CJ 271 Introduction to Crime Analysis and Intelligence (5 credits)

• Course purpose: This course introduces you to the field crime analysis and provides an overview of the techniques for the types of crime analysis. The information covered is information that you will need to have in order to fulfill the position of a crime analyst in the future. This course provides you with the opportunity to learn more about the 2 portions of this certificate and determine which specialization you may prefer in your future career.

4. Criminal Investigations

• CJ 272 Criminal Investigations (5 credits)

• Course purpose: This course will explore investigative theory, sources of information, interview and interrogation techniques, crime patterns, criminal law & procedures, and report writing. In this course you will practice applying investigative procedures within legal and ethical constraints, essential to ensuring equitable application in your future career. This course is a required course for future optional credentialing by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts and International Association of Crime Analysts.

5. Crime Mapping Techniques

• CJ 273 Crime Mapping Techniques (5 credits)

• Course purpose: You will develop fundamental skills necessary to prepare maps and conduct spatial analysis for crime analysis projects and move towards mastery of the crime analyst skills necessary to succeed in the field. This course is a required course for future optional credentialing by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts and International Association of Crime Analysts.

6. Criminal Behavior

• CJ 274 Criminal Behavior (5 credits)

• Course purpose: This course focuses on the scientific study and psychological bases & dynamics of criminal situations & criminal behavior; major theories of criminal & aggressive behavior; cognitive, psychodynamic, behavioral, social learning, descriptive, & developmental theories are discussed & compared with current classification systems.

   

7. Advanced Crime Analysis Techniques

• CJ 275 Advanced Crime Analysis Techniques (5 credits)

• Course purpose: Encompassing concepts & technical skills across all major types of crime analysis, you will engage in a series of projects that replicate the analyses & challenges crime analysts regularly encounter, ensuring that you are fully prepared to enter into an analyst position. This course is a required course for future optional credentialing by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts and International Association of Crime Analysts.

8. Empirical Profiling

• CJ 276 Empirical Profiling (5 credits)

• Course purpose: You will practice applying the concepts of empirical profiling to real domestic and international cases, ensuring that you are able to provide your skills accurately, cross-culturally, and without bias. These three areas are imperative for success in the field. This course must be taken in your fourth/final quarter, simultaneously with CAPSTONE: Crime Analysis Application (Research & Design Methods).

9. Applied Crime Analysis Research and Design Methods

• CJ 277 Applied Crime Analysis Research and Design Methods (5 credits)

• Course purpose: In this course, you will develop an original crime analysis project & bring the project to completion, including the gathering of data, the analysis of data, the application of the data, and a presentation of your findings. This course is designed to mirror the standard function of any analyst and/or profiler, and serves as the Capstone course for this certificate. This course is a required course for future optional credentialing by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts and International Association of Crime Analysts. This course must be taken in your fourth/final quarter, simultaneously with Empirical Profiling & Crime Scene Analysis.
