2. General Chemistry Prep

• Course purpose: This class will provide the necessary mathematics preparation for the Majors Chemistry sequence (CHEM& 161-163).  This class is only waived if a student has taken CHEM& 121 and earned a 3.0 or better, or if a students is taking MATH& 151 or higher.

4. General Biology w/Lab

• Course purpose: Overview of biological concepts to prepare for upper level biology courses, and lab experience.  This class is the foundation from which all the 200-level Biology courses are built upon.  You will learn about a survey of biological studies, how to properly use a microscope, and other important lab techniques.

• Course purpose: Similar to natural philosophers you will spend time using observation to see various subjects from a specific point of view.

• PHIL 160 Introduction to the Philosophy of Science (5 credits)

• Course purpose: You will explore key questions about the foundations and structure of science from the perspective of humanities.

• Course purpose: This trio of courses provides you with an overview of cell, plant and animal biology and gives you lab experience.  These courses will build upon the knowledge gained in BIOL& 160 to prepare you to transfer into 300-level and 400-level courses at the university.  You learn the fundamental, background knowledge to be successful as a biology major.

• Course purpose: You will develop understanding of diverse cultural beliefs and customs and have the opportunity to discuss their roles and responsibilities as members of families and communities, which is a part of being an educated scientist who works with a diverse group of people.

• Course purpose: This course involves writing a research paper and will introduce students to using library resources and becoming confident in information competency and effective communication.
