Course Description
A survey course covering the basic concepts of physics, chemistry, earth science, and astronomy. Lab included.

Course Content
A. Mechanics
B. Thermodynamics
C. Sound and light waves
D. Electricity and magnetism
E. Chemistry
F. Earth science
G. Astronomy

Student Outcomes
1. Explain how physical laws determine the motion of objects on Earth and the nature of orbiting bodies in our solar system.
2. Explain the role of heat and temperature in chemical and physical processes and apply these to thermodynamics.
3. Explain the causes and effects of light and sound wave propagation.
4. Analyze the properties of electricity and magnetism, and explain how these properties are connected to the theories and laws that describe them.
5. Describe physical and chemical properties using the periodic table and an understanding of chemical bonds.
6. Describe the interactions of water, land, and air environments that shape the Earth and influence life on our planet.
7. Assess and explain societal implications of core scientific principles within course content areas.

Degree Outcomes
STEM: Graduates use the scientific method to analyze natural phenomena and acquire skills to evaluate authenticity of data/information relative to the natural world.
