EM 430 Legal Issues in Emergency Management (5 credits)



Prerequisite Current enrollment in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Management program.

Course Description
This course provides an overview of public policy, law, standards, and best practices related to the Emergency Management field.

Student Outcomes
  1. Describe the laws, authorities, mandates, and standards that apply to emergency management  
  2. Describe the evolution of emergency management policy development over time.  
  3. Analyze the legal and policy principles applicable to current emergency mangement issues through case studies of recent issues and events. 
  4. Identify standards and best practices that can be implemented within emergency magement organizations.
  5. Identify the basis of legal liability and how it can be avoided in organizations.
