PCADE 096 Health and Fitness (5 credits)



Course Description
An independent fitness course designed to allow for the development of the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to adapt, improve and sustain a healthy lifestyle. This course was formerly known as “Fitness and Wellness.”

Dimensions of Wellness 
Exercise adherence strategies and motivational techniques
Goal Setting and Evaluation
Exercise Prescription, Implementation, Evaluation, and appropriate progression
Behavior Modification and Habit Development
Health Related components of Fitness & Assessment techniques
Principles of Nutrition for Exercise and Physical Activity

Student Outcomes
1.Identify medical clearance for safe participation in exercise and the benefits of participation in a comprehensive fitness program.

2. Assess the health-related components of fitness to develop an exercise prescription for oneself.

3. Develop SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) goals for personal fitness and health and an assessment plan.

4. Apply motivational techniques to enhance compliance to a healthy lifestyle and adherence to a comprehensive fitness program.

5. Evaluate personal health and fitness goals using various assessment tools such as aerobic capacity testing, muscular endurance testing, and critical self-analysis and reflection.

6. Analyze the dimensions of health and wellness, factors that influence these dimensions, their interrelationship, and the impact on quality of life.

7. Create diverse strategies for achieving and maintaining optimal fitness, health and wellness.
